Because we are committed to taking a holistic approach in our mission to end the cycle of poverty in Sierra Leone, we provide free healthcare and vaccines for our students, children in our community ages 5 and under, and expecting mothers.
A community health clinic was constructed in 1997 on the largest of our campuses, the Wellington campus. The healthcare clinic on our largest campus provides free healthcare for our students, children ages 5 and under in the community, and new and expecting mothers.
Additionally, our clinic was one of few in Sierra Leone that the government allowed to stay open during the Ebola crisis that lasted from 2014-2016 because of our high standards of care and well-trained medical staff.
Sierra Leone ranks #1 in the world for Maternal Mortality, and we are proud to say that in the 22 years since we started delivering babies, we have never lost a mother during childbirth, though we average 2-3 deliveries a day.
In addition to rooms to serve our students and community members, our current clinic has one small room with one delivery bed for our expectant mothers. with a clinic expansion underway, we will be able to provide mothers the quality care and privacy that they deserve by having three delivery beds.
Many mission trips to the health clinic have provided dental services, optical services, health education classes, and distribution of medicines and malaria nets. With the addition of solar power, the clinic is increasing the number of people in the community it can serve.
